Green Sea Turtles or Honu as we call them in
Hawaii, get their name from the color of their
body fat, which
is green
from
the algae
or limu that they eat. They can hold their breath
for 2 hours. They have a gland behind thier eyes
that washes excess salt from their eyes. This
makes it appear as if they are crying. We often
see cleaning stations, where they line up to
let the fish eat the algea off their backs.
