Yet another beatiful day to scuba dive in Hawaii.
The rumors are true, Captain Mike really does know how to scuba dive.
I had the opportunity to scuba dive today with Jason (one of our resident Divemasters) and Rick, who was referred to us by one of our friends in Waikiki. What a treat to have such an easy and fun day of diving with you guys, tough to call it work on a day like this. Two of my favorite sites today, Turtle Canyons and the shipwreck "Sea Tiger". We weren't disappointed as Turtle Canyons lived up to its name, lots of Green Sea Turtles, octopus, Nudibranch's by the dozen, tons of fish, highlighted by a bright yellow baby Frogfish and a baby Dragon Wrasse (or Rockmover as it's officially known). After a nice long surface interval we headed over to the Sea Tiger, the hunt was on. Having been teased by the baby Frogfish we were on a mission to find the adult Frogfish that reside on the shipwreck. I was beginning to think we might strike out when we were halfway through the dive and hadn't found one yet. Having to settle for boring things like a visit to the wheelhouse, swimming through the cargo holds to say hello to the resident turtle "Volkswagon" (he really isn't quite that big but it sure seems like it), more Nudibranch's, an Octopus, a zillion fish, etc., etc..
Rick and I found Jason filming an odd Nudibranch near the top of the wheelhouse and there it was on the railing right above his head, a fat pink Frogfish (hard to say whether it was pregnant or just ate something very large, but we're hoping for more baby Frogfish). Satisfied that we had a successful hunt, I turned around and there not 5 feet away was another one, dark green this time. By now we were pushing the extent of our no-decompression time, had about 10 seconds to check out a Leaf Scorpionfish before we began our ascent.
Thank you guys for the two great dives.

At last at last I have been without a camera but I finally got it fixed! so again, more dive log and pictures. This afternoon dives were amazing visibility, the most comfortable introductory diver ever (Stephan) and a wonderful gal and her hubby. See Erin, I remember the smiling part of the day!!! We saw lots of eels, and fish but the highlights were the huge Sting Ray, the Green Sea Turtle, and lets not forget several octopii of varoius sizes! Great dives, great day, great friends! Thank you for diving with us! |

Miami was represented today by Hector and Benny who joined us for the afternoon dives today. We had some beautiful viz and we were treated to some wonderful sealife. You know it is going to be a good dive when you jump in and have to avoid 7 turtles! Hector is a fellow foto bug, so we had a lot of fun getting pictures and visiting the site. Benny reluctantly posed with an octopus, and didn't look to dissapointed as it swam away. A huge variety of morays - white mouth, yellow margin, dragon and even a swim alongside a magnificent snake eel! Besides the dives, we shared a lot of laughs, and a lot of posing for the camera! |

Newly certified divers Barbara and Alexander came to us today after having just finished their dive certification. They were anxious for some new sites they hadn't seen yet, so we went to Turtle Canyons and Nautilus Reef. The viz was about 60-70 feet at Turtles - and just teeming with our shelled friends. Plus of course octopus, eels, banded shrimp, leaf scorpionfish, huge trumpetfish, and a huge yellow frogfish. Next dive we are looking for the 100ft mark!! ;) |
