Not the best day of diving... we have a south swell which is dying down, nonetheless has decreased viz to like 30-40 feet (Great Diving for you Californians!) We had 4 try it for the first time divers and they did great. Not often the whole group makes both dives with no issues! These guys were awesome! We visited a large Yellow Margin eel who had guests over... both a juvenile cleaner wrasse and a banded shrimp. They were both INSIDE the eel's mouth, busily cleaning his teeth from the last meal. Good thing for them he is not fond of shrimp! We were also glad to see the return of the green sea turtle to the ledge! |

A day of rarities and new experiences. Rarities - blue urchin, tiny little frogfish and a pair of saddleback butterfly fish. Okay, mabye only I was excited by these rare sightings. Everyone else enjoyed the beautiful schools of blue striped snappers, large eels, spotted eels, leaf scorpionfish, trumpetfish, colorful wrasse fish... We also got to share the first underwater experience with Father/Son duo Jack and Josh. It was an absolute joy to experience the underwater world through new eyes. I think Jack can be quoted by saying "That was the experience of a lifetime" .. and I got to be a part of that with him and my son. I love my job! Thank you Jack, Josh, Loren, Christo, Lizzy, Tony and Guillermo for an awesome day! |

We get the greatest people visiting us! Today was no exception. That is the joy for us. For them, it is visiting the sea critters in the Hawaiian Waters. The viz was pretty good considering it had been bad lately due to a south swell. We had about 60 feet or so (you Californians think this is REALLY AWESOME) but this is not such a good day for us. No current. Lots of critters. While I was off chasing a juvenile RazorFish, Greg found it more interesting to follow the Undulated Eel who was out of his hole for a swim. Meanwhile Rick was following the Spotted Eagle Rays. They both thought I was narced when I pointed to the Frogfish. 'What is so exciting about a railing' their eyes questioned me.... until the railing moved! Afternoon had Gary practicing his navigation skills. I have to say how much fun it was for me to have SOMEONE else lead the dive and he said how much fun it was for him to get to lead! Don't worry, I won't relinquish control for long...The Devil Scorpionfish tried to hide himself from the watchful eyes of our budding Divemaster, to no avail. Lots of fun in the water today! |

In the morning we visited the Sea Tiger. Never a dissapointing dive. 2 frogfish, eagle rays, big turtle on the bow.. and of course the tiny weenie little juvenile razorfish that only I get excited about. Horseshoe reef ooed and awed us with not one but two huge octopus (well by Oahu's standards), green turtles, Dragon Wrasse .. oh and of course the TRUMPET Fish! Viz was 60 feet or so, and water temp is a frigid 73 degrees! Diving in Hawaii is hard stuff!!! |

Despite storm conditions last week, we still looked at 50-60 feet of viz! Sea Tiger & Kewalo Pipe were our sites for the day. I got to dive with Steffi and Karl! Together we spotted eels, slipper lobsters, scorpionfish (both leaf and devil), spotted eagle ray and even a dragon moray. Guess the critters were glad the storm was over too! |
